We regret to announce the passing of Florence (Gushue) Monahan, of Ashby Rd., Sydney, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney on Feb. 9, 1920, she was a daughter of the late George and Johanna (St. John) Gushue.
Florence is survived by her daughters, Jo-Ann (Tom) Colbert, Grand Mira, Sandra (David) MacDonald, Sydney and Marian Monahan, Sydney; son, John (Jane), Coxheath; son-in-law, Percy Colbert; grandchildren, Diane (Cliff) Vaught, Sue (Dennis) Lanoe, Erin (David) Huntington, Laura (Ryan) Smith, Sarah MacDonald (Mathew Johnson), David Colbert (Jackie MacDonald), Glenn (Tara) Colbert, Patricia Monaghan, Lisa Monaghan and Kim Monaghan; 19 great-grandchildren.
Florence was predeceased by her husband, John 'Jack' and daughter, Sharon Colbert. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her sisters, Madeline Norman, Christina MacGrady and Bernadine Chandoiseau and brothers, Patrick, George, Thomas and Raymond.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 1-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to palliative care.
