FLECKNELL, JOSEPH “JOE”
Surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday October 21, 2015, Joe lost his courageous battle with cancer at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Joe was born on April 12, 1956 to Mavis (Spence) and the late J. Matthew Flecknell of Saint John. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Joe was a long-time employee of Kent Building Supplies and most recently worked in contractor sales. He loved teaching and helping others and was known as the ‘go to guy’ for problems big or small - he always had a fix. Joe volunteered for The Kidney Foundation was a Cub Leader and was an instructor for the College of Extended Learning’s “DIY Handy Women’s Course.” He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, playing darts with the Saint John Gentleman’s Dart League, and spending time with family and friends especially his grandchildren whom he adored. Besides his mother, Joe is survived by loving and devoted wife Christine (Cox) of Saint John, son Oliver (Amanda) of Fredericton; daughter-in-law Alisha of Quispamsis; precious grandchildren Cole, Miles, Dahlia-Joan and Leo; brothers Charles and David (Patricia) both of Saint John; sister Nora Jean Pybus (Chris) of Ottawa; mother-in-law Jean Cox (Eric Green) of Saint John; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Sandra Jeffers of Saint John, Carolyn Hunter (Phil) of Nerepis, Edie Guitard (Norman) and Judy Cannon (Eric) both of Saint John; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Besides his father Matt, Joe was predeceased by his son Christopher Flecknell in September of 2013 and his father-in-law Reginald Cox.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday October 25th from 3 to 8 p.m. Memorial service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday October 26th at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
