HARKNETT, BETTY F.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Harknett, 90, of The Grass Home, Riverview, peacefully at her residence on Saturday, October 24, 2015, with her loving family by her side. Born in Essex, England, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Clarke) Cox.
Betty was retired from the T. Eaton Co. Ltd. and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. Always active in her community, she was a member of the Air Force Veterans, the Royal Canadian Legion and a Life Member of the IODE, having volunteered at the local and provincial levels. Betty contributed to the War effort during the Second World War by serving for four years in the Women’s Land Army.
Betty will be sadly missed by her son, Brian (Pat); grandchildren, Troy, Lori-Ann Kirby (Chris) and Andrew (Emily) and her great-grandchildren, Bennett and Sawyer Kirby and Oliver Harknett.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Dennis; daughter-in-law, Joan and sisters, Ellen and Ruby.
We wish to thank Betty’s second family, John and Lynn Grass and the staff at The Grass Home, for the love, dignity and compassion shown to her during her time there. It is really appreciated by Brian and family. A special thank you to Mary Margaret and Louise, who provided care and comfort by being with Betty in her final days.
At her request there will be no visitation. A Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 11:00 am, with The Rev. Catherine Gaw officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. A family interment will take place at a later date.
In Betty’s memory, for those who wish, donations can be made to Visions United Church or a memorial of the donor’s choice.
