Vincent 'Bubba' MacNeil
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vincent 'Bubba’ MacNeil, age 75, after a long battle with Alzheimers.
He was born in Reserve Mines to the late Catherine (McNabb) and Daniel McNeil on May 8, 1940 and passed on Oct 26, 2015 with his family by his side.
In his younger years and before his illness, he was an avid baseball player, dart shooter and bowler. He looked forward to curling with his friends from the steel plant and his golf games with his brother, Whis. His ability to light up the dance floor was second to none. He was one of the best dancers around.
Before starting his career at Sydney Steel, he worked at the local grocery store in Reserve Mines and the Co-op lumber yard in Sydney. He had a 30 year career at the Sydney Steel Plant, where he made lifelong friends.
In his retirement, Bubba loved to go dancing and spending time with family and friends. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life.
Bubba is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan, Glace Bay; his children, Mick (Donna), Aylmer, Ont.; Maureen (Mike Rayson), Oshawa, Ont.; Tracey (Donald Kruger), Oshawa, Ont., Danny (Amanda), at home and Marilyn; his grandchildren, Brett, Brennan, Brodie, Hayley, Michael, Josh, Danielle, Jesse, Jayden and Andrew. Bubba is also survived by his brother, Bill 'Whistler' McNeil (Sheila), Dominion; nieces and nephews Tanya, Darryl, Debra, Derrick and cousin, Marge.
Besides his parents, Bubba was also predeceased by his brother, Reggie.
Very special thanks to Dr. Archibald and the staff at the Cove Guest Home, Creative Care & Ceilidh Units.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday Oct. 28, 2015) from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the VJ McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with cremation to follow.
