Harvie, Lena Marie, age 90, of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away very peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on July 3, 1925 in Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Annie (Whitehead) Shanks. She enjoyed being part of a large close-knit family that celebrated each year with a family reunion. She was a dedicated member of St. Thomas Anglican Church and an active worker in their Guild and a member of the choir until her final illness. She coordinated the catering for the St. Thomas Church Ladies Guild for many years and enjoyed wearing the white hat of the foreman. Lena worked as a cook in a number of places in Windsor, including Gordon’s Grill, Stedman’s Lunch Counter and the Hants County Correctional Facility where she shared cooking duties with her sister. Lena was a very special lady to many people, and her door was always open – if you were lucky enough to catch her at home. Surviving are her children, Margaret (Fred) Schofield, Ellershouse; Brian (Carolyn) Harvie, Ste. Croix; Fred (Wendy) Harvie, New Minas; Lalia-Ann (James) Kerr, Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, Patti (Jimmie) Sanford, Tony (Phyllis) Schofield, Cheryl Kehoe, Michelle (Jody) Swinamer, Roland (Jessie) Schofield, Colbi-Dawn Kehoe, Ray (Leslie) Harvie, Amanda (Mike) Kleysteuber, Heather Harvie, Joe (Angie) Harvie, Jan (Dave) Casselman, Stephen (Janessa) Kerr, Jamie Kerr; many great-grandchildren; brother, Reid (Alice) Shanks, Three Mile Plains; sisters, Barb (Wilfred) Edwards, Newport Station; Shirley Ward, Three Mile Plains; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Roland Harvie; sisters, Annie Hunter, Mary Gibson, and Laulia Harvey; brothers, John, Ralph and Irvin Shanks. A very special thanks is extended to Dr. Cathryn Smith and to the staff of Hants Community Hospital for the loving care they gave Lena. Visitation was 6-9 pm Friday, October 30, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 pm Saturday, October 31, 2015, in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Three Mile Plains. The Rev. Tom Henderson officiated. Interment was held in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. Following the interment everyone was invited back to the church hall for a reception.
