Muriel Bishop

BISHOP, MURIEL PAULINE (nee STRAIGHT)
July 27, 1918 - Saint John, New Brunswick
November 1, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Muriel Pauline Bishop, passed away peacefully at the age of 97, in the early evening of November 1, 2015 at McKenzie Town Retirement Home, where she resided for 10 years.
Muriel was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on July 27, 1918. She worked as a telephone operator before marrying Gerald Alexander Bishop on November 12, 1938. They resided in Moncton at 94 Newton Street for 50 years. Muriel loved to have adventures. She lived in California during the winters for 10 years after Gerald passed away in 1986. She lived with all her children at various times and became very close to her grandchildren who have many stories about her escapades. Muriel was always the life of the party and carried a little notebook at all times with her jokes and other important information. She loved music and dancing. She especially loved her cottage at Caissie Cape where she spent many summers. Muriel’s indomitable spirit ebbed a little when she was 92 and we were told to go to her bedside. We did and she rallied. A couple of weeks later, with the help of a pacemaker, she was off to the casino with her grandchildren.
Left to love and remember her are sisters, Connie (Frank) Clark, Helen (Harold) Fenwick; children, Peter (Linda) Bishop, Pat (Sten) Bjernefalt, Eric (Jerry) Bishop and Julie (John) Thomson; her grandchildren, Stephen (Tammy) Bishop, Judy Kinzle, Meg (Chris) Emslie, Alex (Kelsey) Bishop, Kathy (Jason) Lopez, Robert (Rose) Rehfuss, Trish (Denny) Ladham LeClair, Eric (Sarah) Bishop, Sandy Thomson, and Kelly (Mark) Luciano. She also leaves 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Edward “Ned” and Lillian Straight, brothers Harold, Donald, Robert and sister Lillian.
A Celebration of Muriel’s Life will take place at a later date. We all have stories to share about our much loved Muriel. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
