Bridget Carmel O’Leary, age 76 of Marconi Towers, Tower Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at her home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (McCann) Briggs.In her younger years, Carmel worked at the British Canadian Co-Op in Donkin. She was a devoted and caring mother who loved her family dearly; she also had a great sense of humour. Carmel always had the teapot on and everyone was welcome at her kitchen table.
She is survived by her loving husband, Winston O’Leary; two daughters, Sheila (John) Prendergast, Marconi Towers, Cathy (Wayne) Johnson, Dartmouth; four sons, Winston (Gail), Marconi Towers, John (Cheryl), Glace Bay, Douglas (Danese), Marconi Towers and Joey (Shelley), Dartmouth. Also surviving is Carmel’s sister, Sandra (Jerry), Ontario; brother, Thomas (Elvira), Donkin; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Garrett, Ryan, Daniel, Elizabeth, Wesley, Michael, Ashley, Samantha, Cara, David, Patrick and one great-grandchild, Nathan.
Besides her parents, Carmel was predeceased by her sister, Sheila Kennedy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Monday, 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. Interment will be at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of Carmel may be made to palliative care or a charity or one’s choice.
