Rita (Prossin) Aronson, age 84, of Albany, New York, died on Monday morning Nov. 9, 2015, at her residence.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., Rita had been an Albany resident since 1955. She had been a teacher in Glace Bay before moving and getting married. She was the director of the nursery school at the former YWCA and had been the proprietor of the P & J Variety Store in Albany. She was a member of Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob in Albany and was active with the aquatics group at the Albany Jewish Community. Rita had also been employed by the New York State Dept. of Taxation and Finance in Albany.
Rita was married to Herman 'Hy' Aronson until his passing. Loving mother of Barbara Aronson of Albany. Sister of Albert (Andrea) Prossin of Quebec, Sylvia (Irving) Brown of Long Beach, Long Island. Many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Ben Prossin and a sister, Molly (the late Don) Mallman.
Services were held at the Workmen's Circle Cemetery, Western Avenue, Guilderland, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. The period of mourning were observed at 88 Rose Ct. in Albany on Wednesday following the service of interment, Thursday from 2-7 p.m., Friday from 2-4 p.m., resuming on Sunday from 2-7 p.m.
