Donald Ernest Wenzel, of Barrie, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at the age of 72. Don was born and raised in Prince Albert, son of Rubena and Ernest Wenzel. He attended PACI and the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering, and was a career officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Wenzel and sister, Lynn Dickinson. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home. In addition he is survived by his daughter, Stephanie and son, Shawn, Barrie; mother, Rubena Wenzel, Good Shepherd Villas, Prince Albert; sisters Beverley Smith (Roy) and Monelle Wenzel, Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Jessica and Courtney Wenzel, Toronto; several nieces; and many cousins across Canada. Don enjoyed life to the fullest. His passions were spending time at his lake home, fishing, cooking, and being with friends and family. He will be forever missed. Services and a celebration of Don’s life were held on November 20, 2015 in Barrie. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation.
