It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Allan Caldwell, on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.
Born in Sydney Mines, on April 21, 1945, he was the son of the late Donald and Violet Caldwell.
Allan was employed in his younger years at Devco and sailed the Great Lakes until his retirement. His love of the ocean and fishing came honest enough. Growing up watching his father building boats and fishing with his older brother Donnie, he also enjoyed this for many years. Many an hour was spent and 'coffee' was consumed at the Ballast Grounds while keeping up with the wharf news. A man with many talents, woodworking, painting, welding, cooking, and lately a love of baking, which he generously shared and enjoyed the praise of his creations.
Allan is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Percy), Alana; stepdaughter, Tracey MacKay (Sandy); their mother, his wife, Rose; son, Darrell Roland (Fran); grandchildren, Mitchell, Jeoffory, Rebecca, Morgan, Nicholas, Lucas, Brandon and Emily; great-grandson, Maxim; sisters, Betty Sommers (Carl), Sydney Mines, Linda Sanguini (Armond) Ontario; brother Stewart (Gret), Groves Point; sister-in-law Maisie; his friend and companion, Dawn Gavel, N.B; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Allan will be missed by many.
Besides his parents Allan was predeceased by stepsons John and Edward Penny, grandson Zachary Roland, granddaughter Bailey Swan, brother Donald and nephew Sheldon.
Visitation for the late Allan Caldwell will be held Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A funeral service celebrating his life will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. in Carman United Church with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
