Ivor Jackson
On March 28, 2008, Ivor quietly completed a contented and full life in the care of the General hospital staff three weeks short of his 89th birthday. Born in Brigus, NL in 1919, he spent most of his adult life as a commercial artist in Toronto, but his first love was the theatre and he was widely appreciated as a versatile actor on stages in St. John's, Toronto, Mexico and elsewhere. His genial good humor, warm personality and unfailing positive outlook made him many fast friends wherever he went, as well as a favourite among his relatives. Predeceased by brother Lt. Rupert Jackson, MBE and sister Georgina Froats, he was older brother to Lin Jackson (Marion) and a second father to niece Valerie Pippy (Robert), as well as a much-beloved uncle to Patricia Jackson, Virginia Wiggins (Valentine), Stephen Jackson (Lorraine), Peter Jackson (Sheila), Andrea and Susan Jackson, Phil Froats (Marlene), Heather Froats (Scott), Vickie Froats (Nancy), as well as to numerous grand-nephews and grand nieces. His passing will also be regretted by cousins Ruth Rood, Jean Adey (Cam) and Alton Smith in Newfoundland and Rita and others in Wales. Ivor's most recent 'family' were the fellow-residents and affectionate staff members at Cambridge Estates where he has lived happily over the past two years, especially good friends and neighbours Elinor Maddock and Canon Rhodes Cooper. No flowers by request, please: any wishing to make donations in his name might choose his own favourite charity, a group sponsoring the schooling of Mexican village children (see http://www.lakesideninos.org/) or else the CNIB.A celebration for friends and family will be hosted by Cambridge Estates at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 2.
