RICHARD BRIAN SIM
May 2, 1947 – November 30, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Rick: loving husband, father and Papa taken much too soon by complications related to Alzheimer’s / Parkinson’s disease.
He was 68 years old.
Born May 2, 1947 to Albert and Beatrice Sim, the youngest of three boys, Rick spent his entire life in Sechelt. He graduated from Elphinstone Secondary and went on to become a journeyman electrician, and then took over the family business, Sim Electric, with his brother Ron. After 30 years as an electrician he decided to go back to school and became a communications lineman with Coast Cable.
Rick met his wife Lorraine on a blind date; they married in 1968 and were together for over 47 years. He is survived by Lorraine and their three children, Roberta, Kevin (Jennifer) and Heather (Jared), as well as his six grandchildren, Corbin, Andraya, Reece, Katherine, Gabrielle and Aiden.
Rick was a very family-oriented man who loved camping and fishing with his family and especially sitting on the couch with the grandchildren reading stories (in character) and making them laugh.
Rick is also survived by his two brothers, Bert and Ron (Judy), many nephews and nieces, step-mother Wilma Sim, and step-brothers and sister, as well as many extended family members. Rick will be missed by all who knew him.
He was lovingly cared for by staff at Shorncliffe for the past four months. His family would like to express their deep gratitude to all caregivers and to Dr. Bruce Robinson for their support during this difficult time.
There will be no service by request. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s name to the charity of your choice.
