Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on December 6, 2015 surrounded by her nieces: Judy, Jeannie, Deanna and her nephew Edward and his wife Nancy, Laura May Colyer, aged 104 years. The matriarch of our Smith family. She is predeceased by her husband Ralph; her parents William Robert and Ida May Smith; her sisters: Blanche, Hazel, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Dorothy; her brothers: Edward, Robert, James, Horton, and William; also nephews: Edward and Gerard. Laura leaves to celebrate her long and productive life, and with much love and fond memories brother-in-law Glenis M. Cahela; second cousin Marion Baggs; nieces: Ida Gulliver, Dolly (Jerry) Walsh, Margie Power, Judy (Brian) Lawlor, Mary (Mark) Tollefson, Sheila (Reg) Fitzgerald, Marian (Larry) Smith, Jennie (Bill) Roberts, Deanna Yvonne Smith, Debra Ann Cahela, Patricia (Steve) Lund, and Roberta (Ray) Dickie; nephews: Edward C. (Nancy) Smith, Stephen (Sheila) Cahela, Jim (Patricia) Smith, Robert (June) Smith, William Smith, Charlie Smith, Bill (Lynn) Smith and Rick (Marnie) Smith. Aunt Laura loved to see her grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. Aunt Laura was active in community affairs and served as Commissioner in the Girl Guide movement from 1955 to 1960, and a member of Trefoil Guild from 1982 to 2005. Her greatest love was her garden. She was a very active member of the Horticulture Society and Floral Arts Group. Laura was also active in the A.C.W at The Anglican Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. The nieces and nephews wish to thank Doctor O'Shea and the staff at Chancellor Park for their very kind support given their aunt Laura during her nine years stay and to our aunt's very special staff members (and you know who you are) a very special thanks. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service to be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11 am at Barrett's Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
