SULLIVAN, VAUGHN RONALD
1941 - 2015
Vaughn Ronald Sullivan of Riverview, formerly of Campbellton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at The Moncton Hospital with his wife, Lois, at his side. He was the son of the late Ronald and Rae (Farrar) Sullivan.
Vaughn began his radio career at CKNB in Campbellton in 1959 moving to Charlottetown in 1967 continuing in radio and television at CFCY. Later he worked at CFBC and CHSJ in Saint John. After spending most of the 1960’s as a popular voice of Maritime private radio, Vaughn joined the CBC in Moncton in the fall of 1968. In December of that year, the network opened CBA Radio 1070 AM with local programming from its Moncton studios. Vaughn’s voice was the first one heard by listeners when the new station signed on, and he was the voice of morning radio for several years. He was also a host and reporter for the CBC Television current affairs program NB Today. He travelled throughout New Brunswick filming stories of its people and its history, with a special fondness for his beloved Restigouche River. Vaughn was not only known for his voice but for his radiant smile, outgoing personality and good nature. He was a devoted and caring husband as well as father and grandfather.
Vaughn is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lois Sullivan (Brooks); daughter, Susan Sullivan (Frankie Wanke) of Halifax; son, Doug Sullivan of Moncton; grandchildren, Tara and Sean Sobey of Halifax; and sisters Kathy Glencross (Junior) of Tide Head and Margo Campbell (Bill) of Fredericton.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:30 to 8:30pm with parish prayers and sharing of memories taking place at 8:15pm. A funeral Mass will take place from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00am with Father Phil Mulligan presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to Friends of The Moncton Hospital, The Canadian Cancer Society or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
