WHITE, HOWARD ALLISON
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Howard White age 97 of Amherst, who went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the presence of his loving family at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Amherst. Born in Amherst NS, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mabel (Weldon) White.
Howard worked for Higgins Dry Cleaners before joining Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, serving in Italy and Holland during the Second World War, returning to Canada in October 1945. He was employed by (Canada Electric) Nova Scotia Power, retiring in 1983 after 37 years. He was a former Gideon involved in Bible distribution in schools in the 70’s and 80’s, and also involved in the prison ministry for many years.
He was interested in gardening, TV sports – a Blue Jays fan. He was a homebody and loved having his family around. He was often seen out walking.
He will be sadly missed by his sons Terry (Anita) Riverview, Glenn (Donna) Moncton, daughter Marilyn Smith, Amherst, grandchildren Paul Morris (Janice), Michael Smith, Cheyenne (Jim) Carrier, Scott (Melissa) White, Tim (Elizabeth) Smith, Charity (Adam) Coates, Ashley White, Janalyn Smith (Darrin), grandson-in-law Scott Leopold, great-grandchildren Richard (Judy), Patrick, Matthew, Shelby, Nicholas, Mason, Jordan, Justin, Lauren, Kennedy, Tyler, Marc, Cameron and Jada, great-great-grandson Max Morris.
Howard is also survived by one sister Audrey Alexander, Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years Allean (Hicks), granddaughter Terri-Lynn Leopold, brothers Osborne, Cyril, Carl and sisters Dorothy, Elsie and Grace.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion Br 10 tribute at 7 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-9906) Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Amherst Wesleyan Church, Amherst with Rev. Evan Oxner. Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
