Hector Garfield Barfitt

Passed away suddenly at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ont., on March 28, 2008 in his 86th year. Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Hector will be missed. He leaves his loving wife of 62 years Cecilia, two daughters, Joan and Judy, one son Robert, seven grandchildren: Chris, Kim, Kathleen, Ryan, Lindsay, Julie and Greg and two great-grandchildren: Dani and Nate, sister Nettie Duffett of N.L. and 1 other sister and 3 brothers. Born in Long Beach, N.L. on Dec. 9, 1921, the eldest son in a family of nine. At 17 he enlisted in the Royal Navy and served in Europe and Middle East during WWII. He became a Marine Diesel Engineer soon after the war and had a 30-year-career as Chief Engineer on various Canadian National Railway ferries sailing between N.L. and Nova Scotia. After his retirement he lived in Kirkfield ON, surrounded by his family and friends. Visitation will be held at Mangan Funeral Home, 332 Osbourne St., Beaverton, Ont... 705-426 5777 on Monday, March 31, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service and reception will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 12 noon.
