MILTON, VAUGHAN HINSON
1930 - 2015
Vaughan Hinson Milton, 85, of Riverview passed away on December 23rd, 2015, after a brave battle with cancer, at the Veterans' Health Center with his family by his side. Vaughan was born in Woodworth Settlement, Albert County on October 18th, 1930, the son of the late Enoch and Pearl (Carter) Milton.
He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1950 serving in Korea from 1951-52. He worked at several jobs after returning from Korea and last worked as a Trainman for CNR until his retirement in 1990 after 35 years of service. Vaughan was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch #32, Hillsborough and the Korean War Veteran's Association. He loved camping and especially enjoyed times spent at the trailer in St. Martins. He had a phenomenal memory and traded many stories of the good old days at Snider's Garage in Hillsborough whenever he got the chance, rarely missing a Wednesday with his friends. He loved music and would follow the crew around wherever they played. He thoroughly enjoyed time with his buddies at Tim Horton's, where he could catch up on all the latest news. He was an inspiration to his daughter and grandchildren, the absolute true meaning of what a father and grandfather should be. He will be remembered for being a true gentleman, for his kindness and his sweet smile. They just don't make them like Vaughan anymore. He never wanted to be the center of attention but was always there when needed. His legacy will live on in the lives of his precious daughter, son-in-law (who was like his own son) and treasured grandchildren forever. He is now at peace and not suffering anymore, he is with the love of his life, Sylvia, once more as they walk hand in hand on this Christmas morning 2015. We can hear him say "So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear, remember I am spending Christmas with your mom, gram and my best friend this year."
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Roberta Alcorn (Bernie) of Riverview; cherished grandchildren, Jeffery, Christopher and Julie; sisters, Judy Steeves of Riverview and Glendine Snider (Bernard) of Hillsborough, sister-in-law, Peggy LeBlanc of Riverview and Betty Steeves of Albert Mines; brother-in-law, Fred Goguen of Moncton; several nieces and nephews and by his friend and comrade-in-arms Alonzo "Joe" O'Connor of Riverview and all his buddies.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife Sylvia (Steeves) Milton in 2012; sister Ferne Nelson (Russell); brother, Darrell Milton and brother-in-law, Ivan Steeves and by all his in-laws and extended family on Sylvia's side of the Steeves family.
Honoring Vaughan's own wishes there will be no funeral service. The family would like to invite all their relatives and friends to join them at the Albert County Funeral Home for a time of reminiscing and sharing stories on Monday afternoon, December 28th, 2015 from 2 to 4pm. "When a loved one becomes a memory, a memory becomes a treasure. Treasure the memories."
