Adams (purdy, nee McLean) Frances Emeline
Adams (Purdy, nee McLean), Frances Emeline
Age 87, Emeline was the only child of John R. McLean, well-known baker, and Marie (Creelman) of Truro. An active, gregarious mother of six, her children, their spouses, 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren will long honour her for her example of unfailing hospitality and enthusiastic interest in their lives. Emeline was a busy member of the First United Church, Unit N, a needle pointer with Marigold Guild and avid bridge player with a group of friends for over fifty years. She was a popular choice for catering and had many secret recipes. Emeline loved music and was never happier than when dancing or teaching someone to dance in her living room or at the Spencer's Point cottage where the family spent their summers. She was predeceased by her first husband, Burton Purdy. Later, Emeline married Russell Adams of Masstown. Her family grew with the addition of his five children, Garnie, Donald, Debbie, Pam, Andre and their spouses and children. After Russell died in 1998, she enjoyed the companionship of Vince Stewart of Amherst (d. 2013). Emeline met every challenge with an optimism and strength that will continue to be examples for everyone she met. In September 2015, she moved to Vimy Court, Bible Hill. She enjoyed the friendly staff and many visits from her friends and children, particularly morning coffees with Anthony and Diesel. She is survived by her children: Paige Moore (David), Sandra Carter (George), Dalton Purdy (Dawn), Harold Purdy (Margie), Ian Purdy (Emily), Anthony Purdy (Wendy). Her grandchildren: Jennifer, Bruce and Sarah, Amanda and Geoff, Matthew and Martha, Morgan and Lauren, Ceilidh, Shay and Skye, Brandon, Conor, Jessica and Garrett, and their spouses. Extended family and many generations of friends will all have stories to share of this amazing woman’s impact on their lives. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Wednesday, December 30 in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St, Truro. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31 at 10am in First United Church, Prince St, Truro with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to First United Church, Truro or a charity of your choice. On-line condolences and donations may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
