Halifax - Harold Alan Fraser, B.A., B.Mus., ARCT, 77, passed away in Halifax, NS on January 6, 2016 after a 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in New Glasgow on August 22, 1938, Alan was the youngest son of the late Harold and Muriel (MacDonald) Fraser.
Alan was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow.
Alan was a retired school music teacher (Sydney, and Dartmouth District School Board), as well as an accomplished organist and choir director (Wolfville Baptist, Bethel Presbyterian (Sydney), First Baptist (Halifax), Stairs Memorial United (Dartmouth) and, until his passing, Saint Mary’s Basilica (Halifax). His organ studies began at First Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow.
Alan will be remembered for his love of music and animals, his kindness toward others, and his unique sense of humour.
Alan was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brothers Gordon and Ernest, and sister Muriel (Miller).
He is survived by Muriel’s children (Carol, Jane, Gail, and Nancy), and also Ernest’s children (Paula, Kim, Barb, and Jackie).
He will also be missed and fondly remembered by his numerous friends and colleagues, as well as his beloved dogs, Toby, Trieka, Lady Marnie, and Phoebe.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9, at 11:00 o’clock at Saint Mary’s Basilica (Halifax). Reception to follow.
