On January 7, 2016, Helen Nicholls, nee MacFarlane, passed away in Hamilton, Ont., at age 87. Predeceased by husband Tom in 1974. Helen, the third eldest of the late Herman and Belle (Williams) MacFarlane was born and raised in Fernwood, P.E.I. After completing her nurses training at the P.E.I. Hospital, she moved to Hamilton and returned in the summers to her "Helen's Hideaway" cottage in Fernwood. She is survived by her three daughters, Sandy (Dan Mutton), Patti and Barbie all in Ontario, along with three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sister: Lorne (deceased) June; George (deceased) Louise (deceased); Bill (deceased) Joyce of Halifax; Don (Mildred) of Bedeque; Ian (deceased) Elizabeth of Ont.; Isabel McIlquham (Jim) of Burlington, Ont.; Jim (Fernande) of Fernwood; and Bruce (Sandra) of Fernwood. Remains entrusted to the Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home in Ancaster. Visitation on January 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St Andrews United Church, Hamilton, with a service of remembrance to follow. Internment in White Chapel Cemetery.
