Ayer, Loman Myles-66, of Shelburne, passed away peacefully in Roseway Hospital on January 15, 2016 with his family by his side. Born April 21, 1949 in Halfway River, at home in the house that his father and grandfather built, for his mother to live in. Loman attended Halfway River School, Parrsboro Regional High School and Maritime Forest Ranger School, Fredericton, NB. He worked for the former Lands & Forest, now Natural Resources, for over 30 years. Loman was a 3rd Degree Mason with Albert Lodge 30, Shelburne, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Berwick Fire Department, a board member of Roseway Hospital and sat on the board of the NS Forest Products Association. Loman is survived by his wife of 43 years, on December 18, 2015, Mary Ann Dorothina (Hounsell) Ayer; daughter, Linda Ruth (Ayer) Smith ( Richard and son, Ethan, Grampy Joe’s Little Man), Hammonds Plains; honour daughter, Thuy Tran (husband Luong, sons Andy and Denver) Shelburne; honour daughter, Cynthia Lagadan, Shelburne; canine daughters, Mercedes and Socks; brother Harold Ayer (Margaret), Parrsboro; sister, Margie (Ayer) Milton (Pete), Hillsborough, NB; brother Earl Ayer (Ada), Amherst; Aunt Rose (Ayer) Pritchard and her daughter Dawn Pritchard; Mary’s family, several nieces and nephews, especially his nephew Andrew MacCulay who called several times a day over the years to check in on Uncle Joe, a special bond never to be broken. His brother-in-law, Melvin Hounsell also held a special place in sharing thoughts of the day. He was predeceased by his parents, James Wyman and Mabel Irene (Henwood) Ayer; his brother Glen, in infancy; father-in-law, Llewellyn Hounsell & mother-in-law, Dorothy Hounsell and many canine friends over his lifetime who he always held dear. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne. Visitation took place on Saturday, January 23 between 1 and 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m with Rev. Joanne McFadden officiating. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Liver Cancer Research, Hemochromotosis Research, Local Food Banks, Animal Shelters or charity of choice. Special thanks to the Halifax Infirmary IMCU nurses, Roseway Hospital and staff, Dr. Eoghan O`Sullivan, family physician of 20 years, who never stopped providing excellent determined care over the years, and Dr. Mark Riley, Palliative Care.
