JEAN HORTON
(nee McMillan)
November 16, 1920 - January 17, 2016
Beloved mother of Joy Horton passed away in their home with her daughter and cats, in her final hours peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 95. Jean struggled with many illnesses throughout the years with dignity and grace.
Born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Jean was the second child of May and Charlie McMillan and sister to Bob. She attended the University of Manitoba where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.
Jean worked as a Dietitian and Doctor’s Assistant. In 1960 she married Tony Horton and their daughter Joy was born in 1965. Jean was administrator to her husband’s accounting business for many years.
Jean was a warmhearted, generous spirit who kept her love of singing, sense of humour and gracious demeanour to the end. Social, kind and compassionate, her love and twinkling smile will be remembered by all who knew her. She loved handcrafts, gardening and animals and was a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) for many years in White Rock, BC.
Jean will be greatly missed by daughter Joy, niece Marne McMillan, many dear friends and her cats. Special thanks to our extended family friends, Betty and Harry, Natania, Wendy, Fumiko, new and old neighbours and many other friends. Many thanks as well to Home Support Services (especially the HSWs), Hospice, Sechelt Hospital, Coast Ability, Shorncliffe, Totem Lodge, Wednesday’s Caregivers Group and Mental Health through some very difficult times.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Happy Cat Haven, any animal charity or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
