It is with great sadness that the family of the late Arthur Batstone announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the age of 70 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife of 46 years, Ruby Eileen (nee Hussey); son Tyrone (Robin); grandchildren: Hannah, Ethan and Faith; sisters and brothers: from the Batstone family, Stella Stevens, Roy (Donna), Irving (Gertrude) and from the Norman family: Stella (Francis), Nora (George), Jenny, Sharron, Ruby (Roland), Donna (Roy), Roy (Anita) and Irving; sisters and brothers-in-law from the Hussey family: Shirley, Doreen (John), Gertie (Reginald), Stanley (Linda), David (Judy) and Clarence. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews and special little ones Sophia, Sienna, and Josiah, to whom he was known as "Diddle Pop". He was predeceased by parents Martin and Mary (nee Wiseman); sister Esther Norman; sisters-in-law Ruby Batstone and Dorothy Boone; brothers-in-law Shirley Norman, Donald Stevens, Ronald Manual and Ronald Hancock; nephews: Richard and Robert Batstone, Richard Norman and Randy Manual; father and mother-in-law Albert and Donna Hussey; uncles: William Batstone, Arthur, Alexander, Theodore and Ralph Wiseman. Prior to his illness, Arthur lived a fulfilling life travelling, camping, fishing, and playing guitar. He was a hardworking, true family man and spent 27 years employed with Newfoundland and Labrador Housing. Friends may visit Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road, Corner Brook on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place from Country Haven Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dwayne Steeves officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Pentecostal Church of Zion or to the charity of one's choice.
