Cassandra Petrowich

In Remembrance - Cassandra Petrowich

We are saddened to announce the passing of Cassandra (Cassie) Petrowich on Sunday December 27th, 2015. She was 87 years old.
Cassie was born January 22, 1928 in Poland to Roy and Marjorie Swetka, the third of four daughters. The family left Poland in 1937 and came to Saskatchewan; first to Shellbrook for a short time then took a homestead by Paddockwood.
Cassie attended school, grew up to be a lovely young lady, then met Peter Petrowich who also came from Poland as a child with his family. They were married June 12, 1949. Together they had three children: Fred, Gary, and Holly.
Cassie worked hard along side her husband on their farm 2 miles east of Paddockwood. She milked cows, cared for pigs, raised and butchered chickens, prepared delicious traditional Ukrainian food, grew a huge garden for canning and pickling, picked berries for jams and preserves, had a freezer full of baked breads and dainties, as well as worked at Don's Grocery then the Co-op Store in Paddockwood. She also played softball and was an avid curler.
In 1971 they sold the farm and moved to Wadena for a brief time then settled in Wynyard. There Cassie worked at the Bakery, the New Hope Developmental Center teaching disabled children, at Cameron's Ladies Wear, and as receptionist for various doctors at the Clinic.
In 1999, Peter and Cassie moved to Kelowna for two years then to Regina.
Due to failing health, Cassie came to live at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Wynyard in January of 2015.
Cassie was predeceased by her parents Roy and Marjorie Swetka of Prince Albert, her parents in law William and Nancy Petrowich of Prince Albert; her sister Mary Radobenko and husband Sam of Burlington, Ontario, her other sister Katherine (Kay) Lamb and husband Kenneth of Hamilton, Ontario; her son Gary Petrowich of Prince Albert; her son in law Garry Arnason of Wynyard, as well as three sisters in law and six brothers in law.
She leaves to mourn her husband of 66 years Peter; her son Fred Petrowich (Bonnie) of Goulais River, Ontario and their son Nicholas Petrowich of Vancouver, BC; her daughter in law Lori Faber, the mother of grandchildren Shaun Petrowich (Stephanie), Trevor Petrowich, and Dayna Petrowich all of Saskatoon; her daughter Holly Arnason of Wynyard and children Kristjan Arnason, Jaimie Arnason of Saskatoon, & Alonna Morrison (Sheldon) of Wynyard. Cassie's special joy were her great grandchildren, twins William and Elizabeth Petrowich (Shaun and Stephanie's children) born in March of 2015.
Cassie also leaves to mourn her dear sister Anne Paskaruk of Prince Albert, cousin Kay Luciuk of Prince Albert, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cassie had a great sense of humour and was a very loving and nurturing grandmother, spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren, never refusing a chance to babysit, always sending the children back home well fed and bathed, and often times with new clothes (she loved to shop). She will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
The family of Cassandra Petrowich would like to thank everyone for their calls and cards of sympathy, and the staff of Golden Acres for their care and compassion.
