Garry George Anderson was born on January 12th, 1946 in Swift Current, Sk. He grew up and attended school in Kyle. Garry started his working life by working for CN Railway in Prince Rupert but moved back to Saskatchewan to work in the hotel industry. Garry was employed by many bars and lounges in Kyle, Cabri and Swift Current. Eventually he became a dispatcher at United Taxi and worked there until he retired.
He will be remembered by many as an entertaining personality and anyone who knew him would say that he was always ready to give an opinion on any subject. Garry’s passion was sports of any kind and he was always a very vocal fan. He was extremely knowledgeable about many sports and could quote stats and trivia at the drop of a hat. Garry was an avid Roughriders fan and he knew everything about the team and their history in the CFL. Most people would remember Garry from the true love of his life….umpiring ball. Garry came alive on the ball diamond and nothing made him happier than throwing someone out of the game! He was always in control and never wrong with his calls, but he was also one of the most fair umpires in the game. Garry didn’t take sides…he called them as he saw them.
Garry passed away in January 19th, 2016 and was pre-deceased by his father Olaf Anderson in 1981 and his mother Bertha Anderson in 1988. He is survived by his 3 brothers Marvin, Doug and Tracy along with his niece Denise (Ken) Giesbrecht, his grandniece Emma Giesbrecht, along with special friends Mike and Shirley, and Ev and Summer Zacharias, who were more family to Garry than friends.
Garry will be sadly missed by all who knew him. God bless you Garry.
