It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our husband and father, John Wentworth 'Went' MacDonald, of Sydney, on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Went was the son of the late John and Margaret (Morrison) MacDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Parsons); daughter, Adele (Blaine MacNeil); nephew, Stuart MacDonald (Karen); nieces, Brittany Ann and Cheryl Ann.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Went was predeceased by his brothers, Carl and Melvin (Kay) MacDonald, Sydney.
He was a longtime employee of Crowell’s Ltd and Alteen’s Jewellers of Sydney. Went was a quick-witted and an extraordinarily warm and caring person. He loved animals, especially Callie, and also enjoyed many social gatherings. Went was a member of the United Baptist Church, Sydney, where he served as deacon for several years. As a longtime member of the Kiwanis Golden K and Kinsmen clubs, he actively volunteered throughout the community. Went looked forward to gathering with friends at the Cove Guest Home, vacationing in Ingonish and Florida, as well as lazy, hot summer days on the Mira.
A memorial service will be held at the United Heritage Church, 500 Charlotte St., Sydney, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the United Heritage Church, your local SPCA or a charity of your choice.
