It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather (Pops), great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Ted passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Throughout the days and nights leading up to his passing, he was surrounded by his children and their spouses and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons David (Gail) and Gerald, his daughters Fay (Roy), Cecile and Suzanne (Al), 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Eileen, and was the last living sibling of his 13 brothers and sisters.
Dad was born in St. Paul, Alberta, and as a young man he moved to the BC Coast and started work as a logger. It was during his early career as a logger, he met and married Eileen and started a family, later moving to Pender Harbour where they settled in for the long term to raise their growing family. Most of his life as a logger was spent as a tree faller, and he became very well respected as such. Like other fallers of the time, he started on a spring board wielding a double-bitted axe and cross-cut saw before chainsaws came along and he really found his form – few could file a chain saw and drop it through a tree like Ted could. He was a hard worker and his company was enjoyed by all before, during and after work.
Dad was a very kind, loving and generous man who respected all others. He was a gentleman to all he met and knew. It was: “You’re a beautiful woman” or “I like to shake the hand of a good man.”
He was a good man.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the extremely wonderful, caring, and dedicated staff at Shorncliffe for all the love and care our dad received during his last five years, and over the past few unsettling days. You are the best!
We would also like to thank Dad’s many friends who stopped in to visit over the last few years. Even if he didn’t always remember your name or recognize your face, he always enjoyed your company.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at noon at The Holy Family Parish, 5700 Nickerson Road, West Sechelt, B.C.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
