Edith Levine
LEVINE, EDITH
Edith Levine (nee Kesler) passed away at the Apotex Center at Baycrest, Toronto, ON, on February 21, 2016.
She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Levine for sixty-four years and whose memory she cherished for all the years she lived on without him. She was the devoted mother of Rhona Ruben (Allen), her sons, Ivan (Leianne), Peter (Heather), adored Nani to seven grandchildren, Alana of Tel Aviv, Israel, Julie (Jordan), Robert (Amanda), Andrew (Marlene), Lyle, Logan and Chloe of Toronto and wonderful great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren, Yacov of New York City, Hallie, Mitchell, Layla, Ashley, Emily, Madelyn, and Aubrey of Toronto and many nieces and nephews.
Edith was born on January 6, 1922, in Montreal, to the late Anna and Isaac Kesler. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Ethel Kessler and was predeceased by her brother William Kesler and her sisters Rose Kesler and Mildred Adler.
Edith was president of the Sgoolai Israel Synagogue Sisterhood and President of Lillian Freeman Chapter of Hadassah. She gave many hours of her time to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Gift Shop. She was an active member of the Fredericton YM-YWCA and Fredericton Golf Club.
In her most gracious way she supported her husband, Harry, in all his fund raising events and community involvement.
Her life’s motto was “exercise is the best medicine” as she speed walked six miles a day on the streets of her beloved Fredericton, and the boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida. As a family, we will miss her unconditional love for each and every child, grandchild and great grandchild. She was the beautiful matriarch of our family who was a source of advice, inspiration and wisdom as she understood the importance of the written and spoken word.
We will remember her for her generosity of spirit and great love of music and dancing as well as love of people. She made an incredible impact on many lives in her quiet dignified way. She was known for her style and beauty and amazed all who had the pleasure to be a part of her life.
We would like to thank Rowena Curio, Sannie Clemente and the Staff at Baycrest for all their care. As well the special friendship of Diane Horsenell and Nelly Spinny in Fredericton.
A funeral service will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 2 pm, followed by burial at Sgoolai Israel Cemetery. We welcome condolences at the Fredericton Crown Plaza (Lord Beaverbrook Hotel) from 4 to 6 pm and 7 to 9 pm, Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
