Winston Smith
Born In: Port Morien
Passed on: February 19th, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of husband, father, grandfather and friend Winston Smith on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016.
Winston, born in Port Morien, was predeceased by his mother Catherine Nesbitt in childhood, his father Hugh Smith and very close Cousin Sara Tomada.
Winston was a devoted husband of 53 years to Chrissy (Cressie Fowler), a wonderful father to his children, Cathy (John) Neary, Darryn Smith, and Cecil (Lisa) Smith, and a loving and proud 'grampie' to Gabrielle, Drew, Mark, and Colby, whom he adored greatly.
Winston had great pride in his birth town of Port Morien and shared this pride in great stories about the community. Winston started his working career on horse and buggy making deliveries for Hopper’s Grocery Store store in Port Morien. Winston had a great sense of humour and would often say his family was so poor growing up that they could not afford a middle name for him. Winston had the great fortune to enjoy 22 years of retirement following a lengthy career with City Printers and enjoyed playing cards and crafting, and watching hockey and baseball. Winston had an enormous capacity for creativity, turning everyday objects into art. Winston was an avid baseball player in his youth.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, there will be no visitation, a private family service will be held at a later date.
You will forever be missed.
