The family are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Acker, age 99 of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ellen (Madden) Burns.
Mary was a devout catholic and member of the former, St. Leo’s Church, Stirling. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Mary also loved her family dearly. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth 'Betty' Campbell, Glace Bay, Margaret (Wally) Blanchard, P.E.I., one son, Bill (Beverly) Acker, Halifax, nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, George Acker, a daughter, Georgetta, Ontario and her siblings.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Thursday 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment in the parish cemetery at a later date.
