It is with great sadness we announce the death of Lawrence 'Larry' Edward Redden, age 61, who after a four year battle with ALS, passed peacefully on Feb. 20, 2016 at home in Iona with his loving wife of 44 years and primary caregiver, Catherine Murdena, by his side.
Son of Mabel and the late Allan (1995) Redden of Iona, Larry was born in Upper Stewiacke and is survived by his children, Joelina, Rory (Karen) and Alix (Michael); granddaughters, Sarah and Kristen; sisters and brothers, Beverly (Jerry), Sheila (George), Donna (Jimmy), David (Lucina), Joey (Liz), Jimmy (Shelly), Malcolm (Dale) and Alana (Tom), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Prior to his illness, he was a proud welder for over 40 years and had the good fortune to work all over the world. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 764 and a past member of Ironworkers Local 752.
Larry was blessed with many talents and artistic abilities and was well respected for his work ethic and always took pride in a job well done. He loved being outdoors, especially in his own backyard. Known as an avid football fan, his family will keep rooting for his team, the New England Patriots.
In accordance with Larry's wishes, his brain tissue has been donated to the Maritime Brain Tissue Bank for research in hopes of finding a cure for ALS. Cremation has taken place with no formal visitation or service by request. Everyone is invited to come share their memories of Larry at an Open House on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 2-5 p.m. at the family home at 4199 HWY 223 in Iona.
Donations to the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, which was extremely supportive to Larry and his family, would be greatly appreciated and can be made at alsnbns.ca.
