New Glasgow -Robert (Bob) George Dicks, age 80 of New Glasgow passed away on February 25, 2016 at the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded with the love of family and friends.
Born in Sydney, NS, he was the only child of the late Clifford and Melvina (nee Hart) Dicks.
Bob was a former employee of Scott Maritimes, from 1967 until his retirement in 1992. His last position was Manager, Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance. Prior to that, Bob was employed with Nova Scotia Forest Industries, Port Hawkesbury, NS, 1960-1967. He served as President of Abercrombie Golf and Country Club, New Glasgow in the late seventies.
Bob enjoyed a life of many blessings with devoted wife Audrey. He was led by his faith. He was well-respected and a friend to many. Bob was a member of Second United Baptist Church, where he served on various committees. He will be remembered by family and friends for his patient and practical nature. He was full of wisdom which he happily shared. He had a rare ability to get to the heart of the matter straight away. Primarily self-taught and always hard-working, Bob had a natural curiosity and intuition for the way things work. He had a life-long love of animals and was devoted to feline pals Kismet and Piper.
Bob is survived by his wife of 34 years, Audrey (nee Peters Cromwell); his son, Brian Dicks (Barbara); daughters: Deborah Beck (Rob), Cheryl Morgan (Dana Johnston), Roberta Keough (Terry), and Pamela MacKenzie; stepchildren: Gwen Cromwell (Cathy), Michael Cromwell (Susan), Debra Keefe (Bruce), Steven Cromwell (Carmella), David Cromwell (Karen), and Lisa Morse (John).
Bob also enjoyed the blessing of eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by former spouse Elaine Dicks (nee Andrews).
Our gratitude and appreciation go to Dr. Peter Lee, Dr. Gerry Farrell, the nurses and everyone who cared for Bob at the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit.
