NEW GLASGOW – Alta Reid Langille, 95, New Glasgow, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by family.
Born in Walkerville, Ont., she was a daughter of the late Lawson G. and Etta L. (Joyce) Reid. She had been an educator for over 30 years, teaching at A.G. Baillie Elementary School, the former New Glasgow Junior High School, and served as principal for 13 years at the former Pictou Landing School. Alta enjoyed reading, listening to music, doing crossword puzzles and traveling. She loved her family dearly and cherished the time spent with each and every one. Alta possessed a strong faith, having read the Bible in its entirety several times.
Surviving are daughter, Jackie Johnstone, New Glasgow; son, Sheldon (Susan) Langille, Fraser’s Mountain; grandchildren, Michelle (Gary), Laurie (Matthew), Annabelle, Chris, Clayton and Luke; many great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion Beck, Ottawa; Phyllis Halverson, Tatamagouche; Carol Ann (Doug) Betts, Hilden; brother, Allison (Pat) Reid, Oshawa, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Emma Reid, Sydney; Florence Reid, Oshawa; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, John; son, Ben; granddaughter, Allison Sharpe; grandson, John Allan Johnstone; great-granddaughter, Hannah Johnstone; great-grandson, Jonathan Langille; brothers, Ben, Gordon and Kenny Reid; son-in-law, George Johnstone; brothers-in-law, Willis Halverson and Clark Beck.
The family will receive visitors 1-1:50 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with Ms. Maureen O’Hagan officiating. Interment will be in Lockerby Memorial Cemetery, Tatamagouche at a later date. www.pkmacdonald.ca
