WHYNOTT, Fraser Hurley - 93, Markham, Ontario, February 24th 2016
With deep sorrow in their hearts Fraser’s family regret the passing of a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather at Sunnybrook Veterans Residence, Toronto. Born March 16th, 1922, in Queen’s County Nova Scotia, Fraser was the son of the late Arthur and Cecilia (Jones) Whynott. Fraser joined the RCAF during WWII serving at Coal Harbour Air Base, British Columbia as a Leading Aircraftsman working on coastal surveillance Catalina flying boat aircraft. After the war, Fraser joined some of his relatives as a woodsmen and official guide for fishing and hunting parties in Nova Scotia throughout the 1940’s and ‘50s. He also participated in Sportsman Shows held throughout Canada and the U.S. Acts consisted of heated contests in wood-chopping, log rolling and canoe tilting. Moving his family to Ontario in 1951, Fraser worked as a carpenter at such places as Mt. Hope Airport (Hamilton), Van Bots Construction and on the CN Tower. During Fraser’s “retirement”, he enjoyed flying his own airplane from the Markham Airport where he spent much of his time hanging out with his “flying buddies” at the flying club. Pre-deceased by his wife of 69 years, Beatrice (2013), Fraser is survived by his children Edward (Joanne), Enid Abram, Warren (Leigh), Denise Smith (Gregory); grandchildren, Michael, Richard, Matthew, Kyle, Sean, April, Emily; great- grandchildren, Josh, Kate, Christopher Jr., Mason, Taylor, Molly, Nash, Reid & James. Fraser is survived by sisters Georgina & Ruth of Bridgewater, N.S. Fraser’s ashes will be interred at a later time in the family plot in the Harmony Cemetery, Caledonia Nova Scotia.
“You will always be in our hearts and the love you gave to others will live on forever".
