Emma Elaine Sletten - Dec 19, 1923- Mar 3, 2016. Elaine passed away peacefully on March 3, 2016 at the age of 92. Elaine was born on the Tiffin Farm southwest of Gull Lake on December 19th, 1923 to Enoch and Bessie Broberg. Elaine grew up on the family farm south of Gull Lake, Sk. She completed her education at Gull Lake High School. Because of a teacher shortage during WW11 she completed a three month course at the Normal School in Moose Jaw. She was hired at Pittville School north of Hazlet where she taught for three years. Elaine then returned to Gull Lake to work at the telephone office. In 1946 she met Ervin Sletten and they were married on Oct 12, 1948. They lived on the family farm west of Hazlet with their children Kenneth, Faye and Gayle. Ervin passed away suddenly in 1958. Elaine continued to live on the farm and was married to Raymond Sletten in 1959. They were blessed with four sons, Larry, Richard, Randal and Duane. Mom was very busy raising her family and also worked evening and nights at the Hazlet telephone exchange until the dial phones were brought in. In 1975 she was hired at the Hazlet Credit Union and continued there until she retired in 1984. Raymond passed away suddenly in December 1983. Elaine remained on the farm until 1995 when she moved into Hazlet. She spent many hours working in her gardens. She was a very determined lady as shown by her lifetime upside down battle with dandelions and portulaca. Elaine volunteered at the Curling rink overseeing the concession which involved making many pies. She also took on the janitorial duties at the Community hall. Elaine was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society and Lutheran Church board. Keeping active was very important to Elaine, golfing in the summer, curling in the winter and daily morning walks. If the weather was inclement she would go to the gym, this was her routine well into her eighties. Elaine loved to listen to her CD's and never missed an opportunity to go dancing.
