Munroe Ave. Ext – Daphine Webster, age 81, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born and raised on Caribou Island, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel (MacCabe) Falconer.
She began her teaching career in the Caribou Island School and taught school for several years then stayed at home raising her family. She returned to teaching, working in several schools in the county before taking a permanent position in the Thorburn Consolidated School until her retirement.
She and her husband built their home on Munroe Avenue Extension, an area being developed in the 1950’s. She was always active and involved in her community starting up a group of neighbours meeting to play cards several times a month. The “Card Club” has seen many changes over more than 50 years but still meets to play cards.
She held offices in Westville Rd. School, was involved in the R.T.A., and was a member and Past President of the Y’ Menettes Club, New Glasgow, and a member of the 55 Plus Club, holding offices there and enjoying many club activities. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and took an active part in church life.
She and her family always enjoyed their summers on Caribou Island doing sports activities on the water, vegetable and flower gardening, or spending time with family and friends. Daphine enjoyed travelling with Ray and family, especially road trips visiting children and siblings within Canada.
She is survived by her husband Raymond; son James; sisters: Alice Robson, Pictou; Janet (Ron) Nastiuk, Calgary; Emily Morrison (Gus White), Peterborough, ON; Helen (Roy) Grant, Three Brooks; brothers: Scott (Rita), Elmfield; Alex (Joan), Three Brooks.
She was predeceased by precious daughter, Debra Ann Webster in 2003 and sister, Virginia McCabe.
Visitation 7-9 pm Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 pm Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
No flowers by request.
