
Alice Mary Ricketts (nee Seward)

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, surrounded by family at Eastern Health Long Term Care in St. John's, Alice Mary (Seward) Ricketts, 98 years of age. Predeceased by Andrew (1992) her loving husband of 46 years, and by her sisters and brothers Cecilia, Veronica, Mark and Dominic and step-brothers Tom and Pat. Born in Gooseberry Cove, Trinity Bay, Alice led a full and active life. As well as caring for her younger siblings after her mother passed away when Alice was only 15, she taught school in British Harbour. Alice moved to St. John's and then to Buchans in the mid 1940s where she met, fell in love with, and married Andrew Ricketts in 1946. Throughout her life in Buchans, Alice was an active member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Parish and participated in various ministries including the Altar Society. Alice will be missed and fondly remembered by her three daughters and two sons: Mary Teresa (Gary Lane), Doreen (Russell Tucker) and Genny (Gary Fifield) at St. John's, Edward (Daphne Harnum), and Gerald (Arlene Rose) at Spruce Grove, Alberta. Alice (Nan) will also be fondly remembered by her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Andrea (Nicholas) and Katherine and Claire, Dave (Hedi), Jennifer (Ryon), Andrew (Kristina), James, Heather (Jay) and Joshua and Andrew, Brian, Natasha (Randy) and Ryan, Andrew and James, Stephen (Sheri) and Rachael and Nicole, Michael, Tara, Ian (Gosia) and Vincent. Our family would like to thank the dedicated and loving staff at Eastern Health Long Term Care who made Alice feel like she was their nanny as they loved to see her beautiful smile each day. Also special thanks to Dr. Heather Woodland for her attention to our Mom. Family will be receiving friends at the St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Parish, Buchans on Thursday, March 17, 2016 and Friday, March 18, 2016 from where The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday March 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at the Buchans Community Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made in Alice's memory to St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, Buchans.
