Lawrence Frederick "Larry" Felt

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on Friday, April 1, 2016. Larry Felt, age 73 years, was predeceased by his parents Harley and Helen Felt. Larry leaves behind with fond and loving memories, his wife Muriel, son Aaron (Erica), daughters Meghan (Chad) and Alanna (Diane), along with family pets Jewels and Sebastian. He also leaves his brother Robert (Maryanne), sisters Shirley (Robert) and Madeline (Wayne), mother-in-law Josephine Furlong and the rest of the Furlong family as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Coronary Care Unit of the Health Sciences Centre. Larry had dedicated his life to teaching and researching at Memorial University. He was also an avid salmon fisherman, devoted to the preservation and conservation of nature. As part of his legacy, Larry was a founding director of the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation (ASCF) and instrumental in building the ASCF into a major contributor to wild Altantic Salmon Conservation. Most recently, he chaired the ASCF Scientific Advisory Committee. He was also President of the Salmonid Council of Newfoundland & Labrador (SCNL) and a founding President of the Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN). Resting at Caul's Funeral Home. Visitation on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 am on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Larry's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to an animal rescue charity of one's choice.
