Mary Kathleen “Kay” Stuewe, 86, of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, at home. Born in Lot 16, Prince Edward Island, she was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary (MacDonald) MacNeil. She was a faithful member of the Roman Catholic Church and had been active as a communion celebrant, with the Catholic Women’s League and various prayer groups. She was a graduate of the nursing program of St. Mary’s Hospital, Montreal, where she met and married the love of her life, Richard Allen “Dick” Stuewe. She was a committed, loyal and tenacious nurse, treating all patients equally, providing the highest care possible. She served as the public health nurse in Newfoundland, travelling to many small communities, offering all levels of health care and was proud to have inoculated countless children against the polio virus. She was a resident nurse for the St. John’s, Newfoundland, School for the Deaf, providing an exceptional level of care for all students. She retired from nursing in the mid 1980’s. She was a member of the CFUW — Wolfville Branch, where she enjoyed the fellowship and purpose of that organization. Kay enjoyed golfing, having achieved a hole-in-one, and also enjoyed curling, participating in her younger years and watching in her later years. She also loved playing bridge, both for leisure and competition. She is survived by three sons, Ron (Nancy), Calgary, Alberta; Blair (Julie) of Dhahran, Saudia Arabia, and Don (Leslie), Kentville; a brother, Edgar (Mary), Montreal; two grandsons, Bill and Riley; two granddaughters, Erin and Taylor; step-grandchildren, Michael, Jillian and Emily; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Allen “Dick” Stuewe; four sisters, Jean Church, Eileen Hubbard, Gertrude “Trudy” Abbey and Helen Bowles; two brothers, Joseph and Wilfred. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Wolfville, Father Craig Cameron officiating. Burial will take place at 3:15 p.m. in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, Liverpool. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
