FITZGERALD, Elizabeth Marilla – Formerly Betty Nickerson – age 93 of Yarmouth, passed away on April 1, 2016. Born in Clyde River, Shelburne Co., NS on December 4, 1922 she was a daughter to the late Spencer and Gertrude (Perry) Nichol. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother who loved her family dearly. She worked as a farmer’s wife and took in boarders as well as worked at Minard's, Guest Hardware, and the Yarmouth Sterilization Lab before she retired. In her spare time she volunteered at the Women’s Institute, was a member of the Red Hatters, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 167, and the Women’s Institute Auxiliary of the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church. Elizabeth also loved to read, cook and was known to be “the princess” always being dressed for the occasion. Besides her parents Elizabeth was predeceased by her first husband, Alvin N. Nickerson “Ed”; second husband, Arthur George Fitzgerald; son, Walter Edward Russell Nickerson; great grandson, Richard James Nickerson. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Wednesday April 6, 2016 from 2-4 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home South Room, and from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2 P.M. from Hebron Baptist Church, Rev. Wayne Johnson officiated. Interment was in Carleton Cemetery. Donations in Memory may be made to the Maple Grove/Yarmouth High Memorial Club.
