It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Donald Francis Aucoin, 85 of Hills Road, Albert Bridge, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Dominion on Dec. 1, 1930, and raised in Whitney Pier. Donald was the son of the late Thomas and Eunice (Doucette) Aucoin. He was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Albert Bridge. After a career of 38 years with Sydney Steel Plant, Dad enjoyed working alongside his sons and family on the Aucoin Family Tree Farm where he made many friends over the years. His favourite pastimes were painting, wood working and tending to his apple trees.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen (nee Howard); children, Allan, Cathy (Kevin) Elworthy, Tom (Sandra) and Stacy (Jeff) Landry; grandchildren, Stefanie, Matthew (Laura), Emma, Chloe and his brother, William.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his special sister, Gertie; brothers and sisters, Ferman, Leonard, James, Raymond, Bernard, Nora and Eileen.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or a charity of one’s choice
