Donald Alexander 'Dan Alex' Morrison

Born: September 10th, 1943

Passed on: April 24th, 2016

We, the family of Donald Alexander ‘Dan Alex’ Morrison, are deeply saddened to announce his unexpected passing on Sunday, April 24, 2016.
Dad was the eldest of his six siblings, born to the late William and Helen Morrison on Sept. 10, 1943.
He lived his entire life in Loch Lomond and wore many hats providing for his family. He began his career as an electrician and later, learned new trades. As the owner/operator of Loch Lomond Construction, he may have paved your driveway, built your road or constructed your cabin. For over 35 years, he was plowing our roads during the winter months with DOT. For fun, Dad enjoyed a good game of cards and was a former member of the Loch Lomond mixed dart league. In his younger years, he enjoyed harness racing (in which he owned a couple of prized horses) and competing in ski-doo races. Dad had a passion for politics and was entertained by a good debate. He was very persuasive until he won. For 17 years, he served on the Richmond County School Board and for 15 years, served as county councillor for district 10, serving on numerous boards. Closer to home, Dad was an elder of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Loch Lomond, a member of the Pioneer Cemetery committee, one of the founding members of the Loch Lomond Heritage Association and the Loch Lomond Volunteer Fire Department. We are very proud and thankful for our Dad and Poppy. We were very lucky.
Dad is survived by his friend and former wife, Vivian, whom he could still count on for a cup of tea and a meal; his four daughters, Donna, Howie Centre, Dana Campbell, Sydney River, Crystal (Jason) Robicheau, Porters Lake and Carrie, Coxheath; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Sheri), Patrick (Deanna), Kenzie, Jonathan and Liam Campbell; Tailor, Tanner, Bethany and Sarah Robicheau; Shamus and Sean Morrison; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lily and Hannah Campbell; sisters, Ann Neil, Halifax and Wilma (Gordon) Rhodenizer, Bridgewater; brothers, David, Donkin and Bobby, out west; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Besides Grandpa and Nana, he was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Peter; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Annie MacLeod.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday 11 a.m., with Rev. Corrie Stewart officiating. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery.
A sincere thank you to Chuck Brockett and Wayne Koziel, as well as the paramedics and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pioneer Cemetery Committee.
