SPETZ: Madeleine Lawrence age 79 passed away peacefully on April 28, 2016 at the Swift Current Care Centre with her family by her side. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 3, 2016 from Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Church with Father John Mock officiating. The soloist was Jocelyn Hammond, the eulogist was Amanda LeNeve, pallbearers were Barrett LeNeve, Corey Bailey, Ryan Spetz, Craig Spetz, Mark Spetz, Cody Tetrault, and Tanner Tetrault, and the ushers were Noel Sylvain, Raymond Duclos and Frank Hammond. Madeleine was laid to rest in the Admiral Cemetery beside her grandson Kevin Spetz as was her wish. Madeleine was born on October 14, 1936 on the Bradley Farm south of Cadillac, SK to Armand and Bernadette Guy. She grew up in the Cadillac district and attended the Convent in Pontiex, SK for grades one through three and the remainder of her schooling in Cadillac. Madeleine then chose to take a hairdressing course in Surrey, BC where she lived with her Aunt Emma and Uncle Louis Foret, which was short and sweet as she became homesick. The next chapter began when she met Pat Spetz at her cousin Marcella and Ray Steen's wedding in October of 1956. A whirlwind romance ensued, and Pat sold his accordion to buy an engagement ring and they were married on July 4, 1957. Pat and Madeleine loved children and in 1958 they had their first daughter Laurie, in 1959 Patsy came along and Lyle followed in 1960. Madeleine said that with three kids in diapers, she was very proud of her laundry line of sparkling white diapers. In 1962 the family expanded with the arrival of Rick, and Gail arriving just in time for Christmas in 1963. Pat and Madeleine lived at the Spetz family farm in the Lac Pelletier district for the first seven years of marriage in a 8' by 35' trailer. In 1964 the decision was made to move to Admiral, SK and Randy arrived in 1965 to complete the family. In 1966 the elevator in Admiral burnt down and Madeleine took on extra work feeding the construction crew for the new elevator in 1966-67. She would get up early to make fresh bread for lunches and a hot breakfast for 12 working men and six kids. In the early 1970's Madeleine began working for the school division as the custodian for the Admiral Schools. This was hard work and she was grateful for the helping hands of her six kids. In 1975 Pat went to continue his education in Saskatoon, SK to become a plumber, so Madeleine juggled her job, kids and keeping her house neat and tidy. Over the years the kids were growing up and were busy with friends, dances, hockey games and school sports. Always community minded, Madeleine became the Village Secretary, keeping meticulous records and looking after every penny in the public coffers. Keeping it a family affair, Pat became the Mayor of Admiral and they continued those roles for over 35 years, being the last people to fulfill these roles. Madeleine was also a member and past President of the C.W.L. and a member of the Admiral Happy Hearts Club. Family was always important and Madeleine especially loved spending time with her brother Lucien and his wife Gil. They had many fun times travelling to Sleeping Buffalo, MT to swim with the kids or staying at the cabin at Grovernor Dam. Madeleine loved to travel and after the kids were grown and gone, Pat and Madeleine took many bus trips and travelled to see their children who had scattered from BC to Ontario. These trips were extra special with the arrival of grandchildren. Friends were also very important to her, as the coffee pot was always on. As you might have notices, Madeleine's legacy is extensive. Laurie (Eric) LeNeve have three children Amanda, Autumn (Jamie) Powell and their daughter Tessa Rose, and Barrett (Sydney); Patsy and her two children Shyla (Brett) Smith and their children Easton and Aubrey, and Corey; Lyle (Liz) and their children Cara (Cody) Breton and their son Lawson, and Ryan; Rick (Nicole) and their children Kevin (whom passed away in 1989), Craig, Mark, Haley and Heidi; Gail (Alain) Tetrault and their children Chantelle, Danelle (Brian) Cote and their two sons Treyson and Koyen, Cody and Tanner (Ally) and their daughter Tylee; Randy (Sherrie) and their daughters Kendra, Alexa and Courtney. The entire family has many photos of Madeleine cuddling the latest baby, which is what she loves the most. The smaller the better for her. She was overjoyed in March, even after her stroke to be able to cuddle the newest member of the family, great granddaughter Tessa. Even though she couldn't speak, you could see the joy in her eyes to be able to snuggle her. A life well lived and full is to be truly admired. Madeleine had a full life with some tough times. She was sustained through the love of her family, a laugh, a joke or a call from a friend was what meant the most to her. Her strength was found in her faith and was a huge comfort to her, especially in the last four months. The family would like to thank all of the people who have cared so much especially in these last tough months. Your visits, rides, calls of concern and gifts of time and food have not gone unnoticed. Not enough can be said for the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Palliser Regional Care Centre and at the Swift Current Care Centre for their compassion and thoughtfulness. Madeleine was predeceased by her parents Armand and Bernadette Guy; brother Lucien; parents-in-law John and Vivian Spetz; sister-in-law Anna Faulk; grandson Kevin Spetz and special uncle Louis Foret.
