Gary Munro Johnston age 67 of North Provost Street, New Glasgow passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 in the Halifax Infirmary .
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Margie (Fraser) Johnston of Thorburn and the late Raymond Johnston.
Gary lived his early years in Thorburn and was a resident of New Glasgow for the past number of years.
During his working years he worked for Imperial Optical and Highland Optical.
He was a past member and former president of the New Glasgow Bombers Club.
In his early years he enjoyed playing rugby and hockey with East Pictou Rural High.
He was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn.
Gary was a family oriented man, his family meant everything to him.
Surviving are his mother, Margaret "Margie" Johnston of Thorburn; his wife, the former Darlene Davis; son, Mark (Janet) of Northern Quebec; daughter, Tanya (Mark) Mosher of Hopewell; Papa’s boys: Brayden and Luke; brothers: Mason (Giselle) of Moncton, Brian (Roxanne) of Lyons Brook, Colin (Lois) of Thorburn; a sister, Leah of Thorburn; a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Raymond
There will be no visitation by request.
A public graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 pm in the Thorburn Cemetery with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating.
Donations in memory of Gary may be made to the QEII Research Program or to the Pictou County S.P.C.A.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the H.W. Angus Funeral Home.
