CREIGHTON, JAMES B.
1928 - 2016
Miramichi – James Beek Creighton passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the age of 88 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born in Ferry Road (Millbank) Northumberland County on January 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Eva Beek and Elmer Creighton.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Russell); daughters Brenda (Dan Moffet) of Ottawa, Ont. And Janet, of Miramichi and one granddaughter, Kaitlin MacDonald, of Moncton; along with his sisters in law Betty Barrett of Newfoundland, Eileen Lobban of Nova Scotia, Beatrice (Irving) of Millbank and brother in law Gordon Tetford of Newfoundland. He will be deeply missed by his special nephew Wayne and great nephew Jamie and fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews. He always looked forward to their visits, whether they came from far or near. His love of stories and practical jokes enchanted them.
He was predeceased by his infant son Brian (1959); his parents and siblings William (Bill), Irene (Carruthers), George, sisters and brothers in law, Peggy and Howard Bulmer, Helen Jean and Frank Arnold, Alena and Robert MacKinley, Byron Lobban and Frencis Tetford.
James was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years and has served several terms as a board member and continuing member of the Session of the church. As a licensed plumber and sheet metal worker, James was a valued employee of AC MacLean ans Sons Plumbing & Heating, until he accepted the position of Town Supertendent of Public Works and Water Dept., which he retained until his retirement in 1996.
James was a valued member of the Chatham Fire Dept., serving upwards of 40 years, rising in the ranks to become Chief during the last 10 years of his service. He was the last Chief of the Chatham Fire Dept. and the first District Chief of Station 2 of the newly formed City of Miramichi Fire Dept.
In each of these positions, his characteristics of honesty, curiosity, determination and willingness to help people in need were predominant.
James was also a member of the Highland Society of New Brunswick at Miramichi.
Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, with funeral service to be held from Calvin Presbyterian Church, King St., Miramichi, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 2 pm. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Miramichi.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Red Cross, Alberta Fire Appeal or Calvin Presbyterian Church (Restoration Fund), would be appreciated by the family.
