It is with great sadness that we, the family of Shirley, announce her passing on May 6, 2016 at Saint Vincent’s Nursing home in Halifax.
Shirley was the daughter of the late Capt. Raymond and Mary Jane Oxford and was born and raised in North Sydney, Cape Breton. She was employed for a time with the Northside Tribune writing such columns as “Sam’s Sidelines”, “Music Talks” and “Let’s Talk Boxing” and also wrote and published a book of spiritual poems titled “You’re Never Alone” dedicated to her late husband Paul. She was a volunteer with the Helpline, the Community Police Office in Whitney Pier and the Serendipity Society. She was a lifetime member of the Irish Benevolent Society and president of the ladies auxiliary and member of the dart league. While living in Westmount she wrote a small community newspaper and was owner/operator of Ra-Mar booking agency.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Heather and sons, Michael and John; her siblings, Daisy and Theresa. She was also predeceased by her first husband, John ‘Jack’ Leach and her second husband, Prof. Paul Tremblay.
She is survived by her siblings, Marie, Raymond, Melvin and Dorothy and her children, Gerard, Richard, James, Ronnie, Elaine, Michelle, Theresa, Rhonda and Rachel. Also, by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most importantly, her cherished granddaughter, Misha, who helped make her remaining years easier. Cremation has taken place and ashes will be scattered over chosen places on Cape Breton Island.
