Rita Butts, RN
Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: May 11th, 2016
It is with both sadness and joy that the family of Rita Butts, Glace Bay, N.S. announce her passing on May 11, 2016.
Her eagerness to help others, to a fault, was second to none. She fought hard in everything she did; playing cards like a pro and making breaded pork chops that were unparalleled. She encouraged her children to go above and beyond what was expected of them and NEVER do less than their best. She made us believe that the world held for us boundless possibilities and we were to take on every challenge with conviction. She made us laugh hard, cry often but loved us all to her dying breath.
At the same time our sorrow is laced with great joy as she was so willing and eager to be going home to the love of her life, her rock, her side kick, Charlie Willie. She missed him to the core of her being and it was time for them to reunite in Heaven.
Once a nurse always a nurse was the motto she lived by and she spent her life in service of healing others. A graduate of St. Josephs nursing school, she went on to help people from their birth to their dying birth.
Rita was one of 11 children of the late Ida and John Yorke.
She leaves behind her children and their families in body but never in heart. She is survived by five children: Joseph (Gwen) Aliquippa, PA, Charlie (Sandra) Edmonton, Alta., David (Irena) Sofia, Bulgaria, Mary (Rob) Elmsdale, N.S., Gerald (Jodi) Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Marissa, Marianna, Ellen, Laura, Alex, Andrew, Catherine, Tatiana, Hannah, Emma, Aidan, and Ava and great-grandchildren, Nora and James. And too many close relatives to count.
We wish to thank so many people who have made her last years as comfortable as possible. Please know she loved every one of you and you are our gift from God.
Visitation to be held at Curry's Funeral Home, Glace Bay on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, May 15th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16th at Immaculate Conception Church, Glace Bay.
