It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Hilda May (White) Proctor, at her home in South Haven on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in her 90th year. Born Dec. 3, 1926 in Ingramport, N.S., she moved to Toronto where she met her future husband Russell James Proctor, of Shelburne, Ont. and they wed in 1950. After the birth of their daughter, she became a foster and adoptive parent and general neighbourhood mother. Mrs. P's home was always open and welcoming to all. In 1990, Russ & Hilda retired to South Haven, Cape Breton, where they were welcomed with true East Coast hospitality. She was an active member of her community. Hilda enjoyed time bird watching and in her gardens and looked forward to when the days would be just a wee bit warmer. She was a longtime member of the Atlantic Mission Society, and attended the Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church in South Haven.
She was a loving mother of Sharon Proctor and friend, David Evans of South Haven; grandmother of Christena & the late Dave Mels of Delhi, Ont.; Gerald Doyle of Regina, Sask., and Michael & Kristina Doyle, of Delhi, Ont.; great-grandmother of Desiree, David, Kayla, Dakota, Kyle, Ashley, Emma, and Poppy all of Ontario; sister of Vera Oliver of Milton, N.S., sister-in-law of Marjorie White of Liverpool, N.S.; aunt and great-aunt to many.
Predeceased by her parents, Harry Samuel and Selina Ann (Finch) White; her husband, Russell; son, Keith; brothers, Bill, George and Bernie White; sisters, Alice Crew, Irene Ross and Doris Thistle.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church, South Haven on Sunday, May 15th with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Fellowship to follow at South Haven Community Hall.
Interment will take place at a later date in Shelburne, Ont.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church, South Haven, Canadian Arthritis Society or The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
