Hazel Anna Swallow

Swallow, Hazel Anna – Wentworth and Truro—90 years of age, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2016 at Wynn Park Villa in Truro after a short battle with cancer. Hazel was born in Lower Wentworth on March 16, 1926, and she was a daughter of the late Lannis and Ida (MacPherson) Crawford. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Robert Swallow. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by brothers, Edgar, Earle, Alvin, Lloyd, Roy, Ivan, Walter and by sisters, Reta and Erma. She is survived by daughter, Evelyn (Ron) Smith; son, Roger (Dale) Swallow; grandchildren, Michelle Patriquin; Adam (Crystal) Swallow; Jason Swallow; Meghan Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews. Having spent many years as a switchboard operator in Wentworth she was well known and loved throughout the community. Hazel also spent time as a custodian at the Wentworth Elementary School. Hazel was a lifelong and active member of the United Baptist Church both in Wentworth and Truro. She was a Life Member of the United Baptist WMS in Wentworth and held other positions such as President of Group Five Baptist Church in Truro and President of Longworth Lodge Group. She loved to dance, travel and quilt. In her later years she enjoyed spending her summers at the cottage at Amherst Shore. Funeral arrangements for Hazel have been entrusted into the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, Wentworth (902-447-2930). Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Wentworth Baptist Church. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wentworth Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
