KATE WEBB
Friends and family are deeply saddened by the death of Kate Webb on June 24, 2016. Kate was born in Scotland in 1944, the daughter of Jock and Saidie Harkness, sister to Ian Harkness, and eventually loving wife to me, Terry Webb. Kate traveled the world and lived in Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom and Vancouver, ultimately settling on the Sunshine Coast in 1991. Kate made many friends due to her outgoing personality, wry but infectious sense of humour, and unflinching commitment to her community. Her humour was matched only by her kindness. Kate worked tirelessly for hospice for more than 20 years in both England and Canada, helping many in their final days of need. She was a lover of books, often reading to her grandchildren and volunteering as a staunch library lady in Roberts Creek.
Kate’s passing is a sad loss to all who knew and loved her, particularly her step-children (Justin, Scilla and Annabel) and grandchildren (Riley, Olivia, Hilary, Vanessa, Rachel, Sirus and Zoe). I am profoundly moved by the many friends who showered Kate with support in the final chapter of her illness. I would also like to thank Dr. Marton and Dr. Mundy, the Sechelt Hospital staff, home care nurses and hospice staff for their skills, kindness and, above all, compassion.
In due course, there will be a celebration of her life for friends and family. No flowers please, but a donation to the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society would be Kate’s wish; it was a service she cared about deeply.
Living with Kate, I have indeed lifted green cups and gold at life’s great feast. Terry Webb.
